Retired military officer that hasbeen teaching high school the past five years. After several years of brewing beer, I decided to plant a small vineyard and go for it! 50 Zinfandel and 50 Petite Sirah.

P4 to Fred and Mrs. Fred. Hope you guys are safe and well. We just returned to our home this afternoon. It's okay. Lots aren't over here. Hope your house and family are safe and your vines, too. You're in our prayers.
Fred,
I envy you, having your own vineyard. How many years have your vines been planted for? I am planning on planting a few vines in the spring, I do not have much space so I am thinking I will only be able to get about 5 vines in. Hoping that will produce around 50 lbs. Living in Kansas City also adds some difficulty, I will have to stay with either a hybrid or an American grape. Thinking maybe Norton. Happy growing and cheers.
That's pretty true Fred. We both joined a wine podcast group thousands of miles away in Pennsylvania, yet probably live 20 minutes apart on the I-15. Go figure!
How are your grapes growing this fall... ready to harvest them this year?
I also am a retired military officer, 21 years as a dental officer in the Navy last November. In fact my retirement ceremony was one year ago on Friday Oct 13. I hope you're enjoying your retirement as much as I am. I've cut back and practice 2-3 days a week, and enjoying doing the things I had put off for all those years.
We're making fruit wines mostly, but I did put in some vines this past spring, in or small backyard. I don't know if they'll ever produce enough to make more than a gallon or two- but it sure will be fun trying.
